Backover accidents, considered fatal and preventable, took the life of Robert Augeri, a 31-year-old in Londenberry, N.H. leaving his wife and four children without a father. The family seeks to spread awareness about their son’s tragic accident and hopefully prevent others from happening in the future. As an industry this is one of their worst fears, says Rob’s mother Janet Augeri. People need to be educated about the risks of trucks backing up. Whenever we tell people what happened to Rob they almost always respond they thought trucks needed to have backup alarms! They never deal with these issues, so they are not familiar with the limitations of the OSHA standard, backup alarms or a lack of spotters.
